Sun Jiadong, laureate of the “Two Bombs, One Satellite” award, attends the China Space Day activity in Xianning

“You students should study hard, take exercise and make contributions to the scientific and technological programs and the aerospace development of China.” In the afternoon of Apr 15th, Mr. Sun Jiadong, prominent scientist who received the Two Bombs, One Satellite Achievement Medal and the academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to attend the commemorative activity of China Space Day, and made an affectionate remark to the Xianning students.

In that day, the “New Era of Space • New Journey of Science Popularization” Hubei Commemorative Activity of China Space Day was held in Zishanhu New Town, Xianning City. Sun Jiadong, prominent scientist receiving the Two Bombs, One Satellite Achievement Medal and the academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Ouyang Ziyuan, chief scientist of China Moon Exploration Project and the academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, were invited to participate in the activity, delivering a brilliant space science lecture to the students.

As one of the pioneers in the manmade satellite technology and deep space exploration technology of China, Mr. Sun Jiadong led the development of 45 satellites since he has engaged in the space industry for 60 years. He used to be the chief designer of the first generation and second generation of the Beidou Navigation System, realizing the networking and application of Beidou satellite navigation system. As one of the major initiators of the Moon Exploration Project of China, Sun Jiadong used to be the chief designer of the Moon Exploration First Stage Project. In 1999, Sun Jiadong received the “Two Bombs, One Satellite” Achievement Medal, and the State Top Science and Technology Award in 2009, the nation’s highest scientific honor.

During the activity, the academician Ouyang Ziyuan made a special lecture themed as “Chang’e-4 satellite and the mysterious far side of moon”. Nearly 1000 students from Zishanhu New Town Beidabang School and other schools attended the lecture. (By Wu Wenjin and Liu Zhen/Xianning Daily)
