Where exactly did Chang’e start to fly when she became a supernatural being? It was said that the smooth huge stone located in Panyuan Village of Guihua Town was the stepping stone when Chang’e flew, so it was called Immortal Pier. and the place was described in the poem of Immortal Pier written by poet of Qing Dynasty Dong Wenshu like this:
The immortal flew from Zhongtai Mountain, left a deep footprint in stone;
The immortal has been away for thousands of years, and didn’t return;
The one footprint of the immortal is as strong as Mount Tai, Chang’e flying to persuade the Jade Emperor.
There is another legend about Chang’e in Xian’an.
The legend of Axe Lake: once Wu Gang was drunk when he was cutting reevesia pubescens which would be used as lotus throne of South China sea chenrezig. Because of dizziness, he mistaken the osmanthus tree for reevesia pubescens. Chang’e saw and was worried so that she threw the rabbit in her arm towards Wu to stop him. However, Wu Gang suddenly got a fright and lifted his axe as a blocking. As a consequence, the mouth of the rabbit was spilt into two, and that was why the rabbit became harelipped. The axe slipped from Wu’s hand, fell into the Yangtze River and hit a hole of thousands stere in size, so the hole became Axe Lake.
The legend of Bifeng Tower: there are many kinds of origins about Bifeng Tower which located in Xian’an District, of which there are two related to Chang’e. It was said that there lived a very filial young man named Wu Gang near the Xi He, who made a living by hunting. One year, a very strange disease was popular on both sides of the river, so his mother was also infected and couldn’t be cured with any drugs. One day, gathering herbs on the mountain, Wu Gang came across TaiYiZhenRen, who was also a immortal, and was told that only osmanthus soup could cure his mother, but he should go to the the palace of the moon to find Chang’e and ask her to give him the sweet-scented osmanthus. Therefore Wu began to carry stones day by day to pile up a hathpace in order to get to the palace where Chang’e lived. However, after 99 days, although he finished piling finally, it was still out of reach. Fortunately, the Golden Phoenix in the Phoenix Mountains was moved by Wu’s filial piety, and flew to the palace with Wu Gang on his back. Chang’e was deeply touched after she knew what had happened, so she sprinkled the osmanthus into the river where the water became sweet-scented osmanthus soup. And after people drunk it, they were all healed. On the other hand, due to his filial piety, The Jade Emperor made Wu Gang stay in the palace to guard the osmanthus tree, who also became an immortal. Later people named Xi He as Jin He, for they thought the water in the river was immortal water. Afterwards, the literati put a left part of a character in the character of "Jin", it became Gan He. What’s more, because it was from the stone tower that Wu Gang flew to the palace of the moon, the literati inscribed four characters of “fly straight to the palace of the moon” on the lintel of the door of Bifeng Tower in memory of the story.
