Chibi discovered the He’s Ancestral Hall which was built in the late Yuan Dynasty and the early Ming Dynasty and reconstructed in the Qing Dynasty with a history of about 700 years. It is the most remote, best preserved and largest-scaled ancient dwelling that has been discovered in this city.

The He’s Ancestral Hall is located at the He’s Mansion hamlet of the seventh group of Yujaqiao Village in Yujaqiao Town, Chibi City. It was built according to the contours of the land, facing southeast, and the rear part is higher than the front. When it was first built it had two halls (the central hall and the rear hall), later, as the clan became thriving gradually the front hall was built in the Qing Dynasty. A triple hall pattern of front central and rear hall was formed and covered an area of 652.24 square meters.

The first part of the ancestral hall is the front hallwith a theatre stage. The plaque on the door is carved with the words “the He’s Ancestral Hall”. Exquisite carving of characters are engraved on the upper part of the lintel of the door, and two big rounded drum-shaped bearing stone with artistic designs are standing on the two sides of doorframe respectively. There are two painted designs with bright colors remain on the wall of the front hall and there are delicate character remain on the gable of both sides. The second part is the central hall. It was totally destroyed during the Cultural Revolution period and the local clansman reconstructed it according to the original sample of the ancestral hall in 2,000A.D. The third part is the rear hall. There are giant beams and timber framework of house, including two rows of fourteen columns, each of which with a diameter of 70 cm. There is an altar built for worshiping the gods. Every year a grand worship ceremony is hold here by the clansman. (photos provided by the Cultural Relics Census Office of Chibi City)
