  About School

  Xianning High School, formerly known as Xianning City High School, is a full-time common high school. It was renamed in 1999 when the original Xianning district turned prefecture city (ratified by the State Council in 1998). As one of the 108 key high schools of south-central province of Hubei, it is a municipal model school and is among the first schools awarded Experimental School with Modern Education Technology by the state. Currently, the school covers an area of 138 mu, of which gross floor area takes up 60,000 square meters, including buildings for multiple-use, S&T, teaching, and ordinary residence for teachers, student apartments, etc.. There are up to 130,000 books, 259 types of newspapers and periodicals collected in the school library. Xianning High School is equipped with 412 modern educational technology equipments, as well as multimedia classrooms and multimedia lecture halls, providing an advanced, full-featured, and convenient information platform.

  Xianning High School boasts 239 teaching and administrative staffs. Among them are 217 full-time teachers, including 93 senior teachers and 5 teachers of special grade. Also among the faculty are 19 outstanding teachers, 3 experts, 26 key teachers, 22 advanced teachers, as well as 11 renowned teachers and academic pacesetters honored by the national, provincial or local level of government, and 7 outstanding party members. Close to 90% of the faculty are qualified in terms of educational background: 7 staff members and 192 others awarded master's degrees and bachelor degrees respectively.

  At the end of 1990s, the school had attached great importance to ideology construction. It put forward an academic ideology of “people first, harmony, and endeavor”, established development strategy of “managing school in accordance with the law, establishing good reputation by strengthening moral education, developing school through scientific research”. Thanks to its practical experience, the school has been characterized by “democratically running and fully educating”, and formed the academic style of “think much, ask when necessary, work hard, and stress learning skills”. Grounded by its fine teaching style of “dedication, erudition, integrity and good teaching” and excellent academic atmosphere, namely,” unity, struggle, harmony and endeavor”, Xianning High School is flourishing with each passing day.

  In October, 2005, the seminar, which concluded the research projects on educational technology mapped out in the tenth five year plan, was held at NCET. The research results of the topic “the IT-based experiment and research on interactive teaching model”, which undertook by Xianning High School, was approved and scored the National Excellence Prize, the highest award in this field. Research results related to such disciplines as Chinese and mathematics also are gratifying. Meanwhile, in the research of experiment and research on exploiting blogging platform and promoting resource optimization of school-based curriculum, a national Research Project in Educational Technology, hosts of school-based curriculum resources stood out. In 2004, the school won five first prizes and one second prize for its unique websites and papers during a website competition. In December, 2006, its projects were recognized and then attained the National first prize, so was a case study The Sunny Lake Culture. Thus Xianning High School was awarded National Advanced Unit of Research and Experiments.

  During the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period, the high school undertook a special research project. It’s about network-based photography education and a provincial project on the integrity of mathematics instruction and geometer sketchpad. Currently, as a new round of research activities was underway, a multitude of teachers have actively participated in the study, which has maintained a good momentum.
