Intensifying School-based Training and Research and Running the School with Its Own Characteristics

  From May 21 to 22, Jiayu County witnessed the opening of the experience-exchange conference on school-based training and research for the headmasters in “double-promotion” pilot areas. The practice of Luxi Central School from Jiayu County received praise by the experts, making the primary school a provincial pilot area of “double-promotion” in Jiayu.

  In recent years, Luxi Central School, guided by the scientific outlook for development, has shifted the focus of the work down to schools by organizing training programs for teachers and headmasters, adopting new methods such as teaching and research with joint efforts and via the internet, so as to promote the platform, the methods and the practice for school-based training and research.

  

  To lead the practice on track, four groups are formed. First, the School has brought into full play the leadership composed of headmasters and school counselors. Second, organizers, mainly directors of teaching and heads of each subject, are in charge of the planning, implementation, and examination, thus forming an effective system of supervision and management. Third, mentors, mainly reputed teachers elected from the school, offer advice and instructions on open classes. Last but not least, six young core teachers, enthusiastic and aggressive, take the lead in giving quiz and demonstration classes, complementing the old teachers.

  Through the four groups, teachers can gives full play to their strong points, switching their role, and improving the teaching methods.

  

  With the teaching and research platform, teachers are to prepare for classes in three folds, combining practice with flexibility, personality and theory. In doing so, teaching plans take into account each student, turning teaching methods to student-oriented ones. After class, teachers are required to reexamine the plans and write reflection notes, reminding themselves that lessons must be learnt to make amends in steps, thus improving their professionalism and quality of teaching.

  

  All these have brought changes to the school education: first of all, lesson preparation. Having broken through the trammels, teachers make preparations jointly. Second, classroom teaching. Students are able to take the initiative. Third, observation. Teachers have learnt to appreciate their students. For instance, Ye Liming, in the lesson of “the Story of the Old Tree”, led his pupils into the context and, in conclusion, gave such comment: “You are a bunch of inquisitive chaps. Grandpa Tree would be thrilled. ”

  The local party committee and government have given much support to the School by building new dormitories and rewarding outstanding teachers. With the help, we have every reason to work hard and provide good education. We are going to promote the professionalism of teachers by strengthening the school-based training and research on a constant basis.
