Beijing: Xinhua News Agency, July 13th
Since May 2012, good news have been constantly announced on the restart of nuclear power projects in China. At the end of May, The Nuclear Safety and Radioactive Pollution Prevention:12th Five-Year Plan and Goal in 2020 was approved by the executive meeting of the State Council, which means the world's largest scale of nuclear power construction is about to restart.
In the current economic slowdown, the construction of nuclear power plant is probably to become one of the government measures to stimulate economic growth. Energy experts and nuclear power industries have been paying close attention to the schedule of the nuclear power project approval.
The first three inland nuclear power plant projects that have been approved recently by the National Energy Administration are Taohuajiang Nuclear Power Plant Project in Hunan Province, Xianning Nuclear Power Plant Project in Hubei Province and Pengze Nuclear Power Plant Project in Jiangxi Province.
The worries of the public about the nuclear safety can not suspend the pace of the development of the nuclear power industry. The leader in charge of the Ministry of Environmental Protection has reiterated in public that the safety and quality of the domestic nuclear projects is guaranteed, which is based on the fact that the safety inspection in the past year indicated that the nuclear power generating units both in operation and under construction in China can meet the requirements of the existing domestic nuclear safety regulations and the latest standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
