XIANNING - The municipal flood control office on Sunday convened a flood control working conference to hear the report on rain and flood situation by relevant departments, such as water authority (flood control office), meteorological department, hydrology department, study and judge current flood control situation, and deploy next work.
Heavy rain hit Xianning, downpour in part of areas from Saturday to Sunday. Cumulative rainfall of 7 observation stations is over 100 mm, that of 69 ones over 50 mm, and maximum rainfall is 133.6 mm in Dongjialong, Xian’an District, and torrential rains caused 59 small reservoirs to overflow.
It’s estimated that rain will continue until Monday in Xianning, with moderate rain on Sunday, heavy rain in part of villages and towns, moderate rain to light rain on Monday. And another heavy rain will hit Xianning on April 16-17, accompanying severe convection weather.
The municipal flood control office pointed out that this year weather situation is more complex than that of former years, especially rainfall of January to March is about 80% more than that of the same period last year, about 30% more than that of the same period in history, and Xianning has entered in advance flood season, with arduous flood control task.
The municipal flood control office urged to strengthen responsibility. The recent rains caused more than 50 small reservoirs to overflow, so persons in charge of flood prevention should perform responsibility and be on duty quickly to intensify inspection on reservoirs.
The municipal flood control office stressed that it should do a good job in scientific scheduling. All reservoirs, hydropower stations, lakes should schedule in strict accordance with dispatching regulation and flood season dispatching plan, and they are strictly prohibited to operate beyond flood limit. It should accelerate construction progress of projects under construction; especially renovation for projects damaged by flood last year must be completed before April 20 according to the requirement of Water Resources Department of Hubei Province, guaranteeing that they can pass flood season safely this year.
