On Mar 12th, the Hubei Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development announced the list of the 40 national garden cities (counties) of Hubei Province when circulating the inspection and evaluation result of the 2018 annual urban management work, in which Xianning, Chibi, Jiayu and Chongyang are included.

With the objective of improving the quality of the landscape garden construction, refining the management and humanizing the services, Xianning City has taken such measures as planting trees alongside the rivers, tearing down walls to plant trees, dismantling illegal buildings to plant trees, making overall plans and financing for afforestation and planting trees everywhere that trees can be planted. Hence it has carried out a bunch of greening projects, including urban park green areas, road afforestation and green areas for environment protection construction projects, and it has constantly moved forward with the construction of the “Green Heart of Central China and International Ecological City”, which has embodied the characteristics, pursuit and achievement of landscape garden cities through meeting the demands of people for a better city life.

Ever since 2012, Xianning City, Jiayu County, Chibi City and Chongyang County have successively won the honorary title of National Garden City (County). After receiving many special honors, these departments has insisted on building one elaborate city landscape works after another, making the gilded signboard of the “National Garden City” shine radiantly and improving both the quality of city ecological environment and the level of green landscape with a steadfast pace. As of the end of 2018, the green coverage rate of Xianning City is 41.27%, and the ratio of green space is 35.81%, with a park green area of 14.66 square meters per capita. 

In 2018, Xianning City has smoothly gone through the recheck for National Garden City, and won the thumb up from the recheck team. They unanimously agreed that Xianning City embraces large green areas, and its natural vegetation has been well preserved, with a good air quality and a terrific ecological environment. Especially the mountains and waters remain in its original patterns naturally, with distinguished features, which make Xianning City a very livable ecological city. (By Wang Limin/Xianning Daily)
