The regular script in small characters of Pan Daofu(a calligrapher born in Tongcheng, Xianning) stood out from about 50 000 exhibition works throughout the country and successfully entered the 12th national calligraphy & seal cutting exhibition according to Xianning Federation of Literary and Art Circles on Wednesday. A total of 49 people from Hubei province entered the exhibition, and Pan is only one from Xianning.
The national calligraphy & seal cutting exhibition held every four years is a national exhibition with the largest scale and the highest standard in calligraphy and seal cutting field, and it’s called “Olympic Games” in calligraphy circles. This exhibition received 52 620 works from all over the country. After preliminary assessment, re-evaluation, final review and on-site interview, finally 1074 works were selected into the exhibition.
Pan was born in Tongcheng in 1965. He followed his grandfather to learn stonecrafting and walked among Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi provinces in his youth. He learned from Xu Benyi, a famous calligrapher, and graduated from the special training class of China Calligraphers Association in 1999. From 2001 to 2003 he got guidance from the teacher Liu Heng and graduated from the advanced correspondence class of China Calligraphers Association.
The 12th national calligraphy & seal cutting exhibition will be held in Baoji, Shaanxi province, Changsha, Hunan province and Jinan, Shandong province one after another in November, and related activity, such as national exhibition forum will be also held in the corresponding period.
