Recently Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs issued the announcement (No.290), which said that 19 products from Hubei province wonthe national geographical indication certificate of agricultural products, including “Baizhangtan Tea” from Tongcheng County, Xianning.
The national geographical indications protection products mean those originated in a specific area and approved to name by their geographical name, whose quality, reputation or other characters essentially depend on the natural factor and humanity factor of the origin.
“Baizhangtan Tea” was founded in 1999 and registered in 2003. It’s identified as Xianning famous trademark in 2008 and had won the gold award of the 10th Wuhan Agricultural Expo and High Quality Award of the first Xianning Famous Tea Selection. Since 2001 the trademark has passed organic tea certification of Organic Tea Research and Development Center, Tea Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences for 18 consecutive years. “Baizhangtan Tea” has a flat and straight appearance, plump body, green with pekoe, as well as characteristics, like fragrant and lasting interior quality, mellow and sweet taste, bright green liquor color, evenly bright leaf bottom, and resistant to brew.
Last year “Baizhangtan Tea” applied for the national geographical indications protection product certification and successfully passed the provincial review of the geographical indication of agricultural products on July 3. (By Pang Yun/Xianning Daily)
