In the first quarter, the total import and export volume of our city reached 2.67 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 187.9%, ranking the second in the province; the total export volume was 2.32 billion yuan, up 192.9% year on year, while imports totaled 350 million yuan, up 158.4% year on year, according to Xianning Municipal Bureau of Commerce on Thursday.
The drive of new highlights is obvious. This year, the city continues to promote the "three projects" of foreign trade: strengthen key enterprises, support growing enterprises, and incubate open enterprises to enhance the sustainability of export. From January to February, exports of key enterprises such as Pamica Electric Material, Eco Medical Articles and Tri-Ring Auto increased by 63.9%, 444.9% and 771.2% respectively; the city newly increased 11 export enterprises, with accumulated exports of 690 million yuan.
The market is more diversified. From January to February, the import and export of our city to Japan, the United States and Taiwan increased by 2422.5%, 544% and 512.1% year on year. The city consolidates old markets while exploring new ones. From January to February, the import and export of our city to "One Belt and One Road" countries reached 700 million yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 170.5%, among which the export to the Philippines increased by 616.8%.
The commodity structure continues to upgrade. From January to February, the city's export of mechanical and electrical products reached 890 million yuan, up 233.5% year on year, accounting for 43.2% of the total export value. Major exports such as electronic and electrical products, textile yarn and its products, and machinery and equipment grew by 103.2%, 108.1% and 237.1% respectively.
In addition, the total retail sales of consumer goods in the first quarter reached 15.91 billion yuan, with a recovery rate of 95.1% compared with the same period in 2019, the highest one in the whole province, which is mainly reflected in: commodity retail recovery, rapid growth of automobile consumption, and strong rebound of catering consumption.
