Chibi Yangtze River Highway Bridge, invested and constructed by Hubei Provincial Communications Investment Group Co.,Ltd, had passed the handover acceptance on June, 3. The bridge, which is a steel-concrete combined and steel-concrete superposed beam cable-stayed bridge with the largest span of the same kind of main bridge in the world, is expected to be completed and open to traffic on July 1, and then it will only take five minutes to cross the Yangtze River from Chibi to Honghu.
The 3.25 billion yuan Chibi Yangtze River Highway Bridge starts from Wulin Town, Honghu City, and ends at Chibi Town, Chibi City, with a total length of 11.2 kilometers, of which the Yangtze River Bridge is 3.35 kilometers. The whole line adopts the standard construction of two-way six-lane expressway, and the design speed is 100 kilometers per hour. The bridge is a control project of Taizhou-Xiaojin Highway crossing Yangtze River in National Highway Network Planning and the skeleton highway network planning in Hubei province, and it is also one of the first 80 demonstration projects of the National Development and Reform Commission in the infrastructure field to encourage the participation of private capital in the construction and operation.
The main tower of the bridge is designed in an "H" shape, with a height of 217.33 meters in the north and 223 meters in the south. During the construction, the world's problems have been solved, such as cable force and bridge-forming linear control of steel-concrete composite beam with a long span of 720 meters, concrete pouring of large volume cushion cap, and one-time vertical transmission of ultra-high main tower concrete, etc., and many "initiates" in the world have been achieved. The main span is 720 meters, breaking the world record of the maximum span of the main bridge of the steel-concrete combined and steel-concrete superposed beam cable-stayed bridge of 600 meters, becoming the new world first.
Since the construction started in March 2018, the project has experienced the cumulated influence of severe flood and COVID-19 epidemic. All the participants of Hubei Provincial Communications Investment Group have risen to the challenge and overcome the difficulties to ensure the high-quality and efficient progress of the project construction. The completion of the bridge will connect Wuhan City Circle Expressway and Suizhou-Yueyang, Shanghai-Chongqing, Wuhan-Honghu-Jianli, Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao, Hangzhou-Ruizhou and other expressways into a network, and the two sides of the Yangtze River are seamlessly connected, boosting Hubei province to “build up a pivot, walk in the forefront, and write a new chapter”.
