Xiannning　Disabled　Taekwondo　Team　made　its　debut　at　the　12th　National　Games　for　Persons　with　Disabilities　＆　the　9th　National　Special　Olympic　Games　on　Thursday．　Their　competitive　level　has　been　enhanced　and　outstanding　results　have　been　achieved．

In　this　Taekwondo　competition，　five　athletes　from　Xianning，　namely　Wang　Chen，　Xiong　Qiliang，　Wang　Zheng，　Xu　Mingxi　and　Chen　Shibo，　demonstrated　a　fine　mental　outlook　with　an　indomitable　fighting　will　and　a　pioneering　spirit．　Wang　Chen　stood　out　in　the　49KG　category　of　the　KP60　Taekwondo　event　and　won　the　fifth　place．　At　the　same　time，　she　and　her　teammate　Xiong　Qiliang　were　also　awarded　the　＂Sportsmanship　Award＂　by　the　organizing　committee．

The　National　Games　for　Persons　with　Disabilities　is　the　highest－profile　and　largest－scale　comprehensive　sports　event　for　the　disabled　in　China，　held　every　four　years，　on　par　with　the　National　Games．　Its　mission　is　＂equality，　participation　and　sharing＂，　aiming　to　showcase　the　self－improvement　and　pioneering　spirit　of　disabled　athletes　through　sports　competitions，　encourage　more　disabled　people　to　participate　in　rehabilitation　and　fitness，　and　promote　the　understanding　and　tolerance　of　the　whole　society　towards　the　disabled．　It　is　not　only　a　stage　for　sports　elites　of　the　disabled　to　compete，　but　also　an　important　symbol　of　social　civilization　and　progress　as　well　as　humanistic　care．

This　event　is　jointly　held　by　Guangdong，　Hong　Kong　and　Macao．　It　features　46　major　events，　covering　summer　Paralympic　and　deafness　Olympic　events，　winter　Paralympic　and　deafness　Olympic　events，　as　well　as　special　Olympic　events，　etc．　The　competition　events　take　into　account　the　participation　of　four　types　of　people　with　disabilities：　physical，　visual，　hearing　and　intellectual．　This　Taekwondo　event　features　32　sub－events，　covering　two　major　categories：　competition　and　poomsae．　A　total　of　261　athletes　from　23　teams　across　the　country　participated　in　the　competition．　（Xianning　Daily／Wu　Qingpeng）
