Xianning City, attached to Hubei Province, known as “the southern gateway to Hubei”, is famous for sweet-scented osmanthus, phyllostachys pubescens, tea, ramie, and hot spring. Located in southeast of Hubei Province, Xianning across the longitude 113o32'-114o58 ', north latitude 29o02'-30o19'. Xianning, situated in the north of Jiangxi province on the east, joining Hunan province on the south, facing Jing Chu on the west, neighboring Wuhan on the north, is convenient for transportation with a moderate location. 138 km of the Yangtze golden waterway flowing towards east, the Beijing-Guangzhou railway, National Highway NO.106 and 107, the Beijing-Zhuhai highway running through north and south, with an area of 9861 square kilometers, Xianning have jurisdiction over one county-level city, one district and four counties: Chibi City, noted for the three kingdoms in the history; Xian’an District, whose scenery in Xiangyang Lake will make you immersed; Chongyang County, the hometown of opera and music; Jiayu County, a place of abundant fish and rice; Tongcheng County, full of traveling traders due to Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi provinces interchange; Tongshan County, renowned for Jiugong Mountain.

　　Xianning is located in the south bank of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, the northern foothills of Mufu Mountain, whose tectonic structure lies in the three level 4 tectonic units , namely Liangzi lake subsidence（Ⅱ3）of Daye city pleater tape（Ⅱ3）of Xiayangzi platform flat（Ⅱ3）of the eastern end of the Yangtze paraplatform（Ⅱ）, sets of plait of Xianning（Ⅱ3）,and sets of plait of Tongshan（Ⅱ4）of Mufu（Ⅱ4）. The Proterozoic to the Cenozoic stratigraphy are emerged in the tectonic area, and magmatic activity mainly focuses on the Jiugong Mountain area. Due to the influence of crustal movement, the fold movement and fault develop, forming the modern landscape. Because of low-lying south high north, Xianning is divided into three landform areas. Jianghan alluvial plain area, located in the northwest, a large area ranging from Cha’an Ling of Chibi City to the north of Shuangxi Bridge in Xian’an District; low mountainous hilly area covering from Damu Mountain to Yushan Mountain, located in the central, the vast areas from north of Gaohu Village to Shadian Village in Tongshan County, to south of Cha’an Ling to Shuangxi Bridge; Mufu Mountain eroded structured mountainous areas, located to the south of Gaohu Village to Shadian Village in Tongshan County.

　　Xianning belongs to sub-tropical continental monsoon climate, mild, with abundant rainfall and sunshine, four distinct seasons, and a long frost-free period. Prevailing northerly winds in winter, it is cool and dry in Xianning, while prevailing southerly winds in summer, temperature is high but the rainfall is adequate. The average annual temperature of Xianning is 16.8 °C, with a maximum of 41.4 °C, and a minimum of minus 15.4 °C; the average annual rainfall stands at 1577.4 mm, while the average annual sunshine time is counted as 1754.5 hours, the average annual frost-free period being 245-258 days. The main severe weather includes late spring coldness, large rain storm, floods, and drought during hot summer days.
