Tongcheng Yaogu Mountain ancient Yao village scenic area became the first national 4A level scenic area in the county, according to Xianning Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism on Wednesday.

Tongcheng Yaogu Mountain ancient Yao village scenic area is located at the northern foot of Yaogu Mountain (Longjiao Mountain), part of Mufu Mountain, at the junction of Hunan and Hubei provinces, with Hangzhou-Ruili Expressway, Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway and Wuhan-Shenzhen Expressway running through it. Since ancient times it had been the central area inhabited by Yao and Han nationalities, a tourist attraction integrated with ancient Yao culture, Chu and Han culture, traditional Chinese medicine culture, red culture, natural scenery, ecological leisure, and folk custom. The scenic area has many natural and human landscapes, with unique shale and rubble landform, which provides a favorable condition for ancient Yao people to form base stone culture cluster there, as well as a tangible evidence for studying how ancient three Miao ethnic groups formed a nationality there from barbaric ethnic groups to Yao people, full of higher historic and cultural values.

In recent years, the city continues to promote the cultivation and building of national A level scenic areas. Through project guidance, policy incentives, training, coordination and assistance, it improves the construction of scenic spots according to the standard to make sure that every full-fledged scenic area can apply for building national A level scenic area and every candidate can successfully become national A level scenic area. Now the city has 44 national A level scenic areas, including one 5A level scenic area, 13 4A level scenic areas, 16 3A level scenic areas, and 14 2A level scenic areas.
